No—open enrollment only applies to ACA/Obamacare and other government plans. Private insurance is available year-round, so you can apply anytime.

ACA/Obamacare offers major medical coverage and guarantees approval regardless of pre-existing conditions. It’s often the most affordable option if you qualify for a government subsidy to help with the monthly premium. Without that discount, though, it can be one of the more expensive options.
Employer-sponsored plans are usually a great deal—for the employee. But once you add a spouse or children, the cost can increase significantly. That’s because employers typically cover a large portion of the employee’s premium, but family members are often charged full price.
Private insurance is based on health, so you’ll go through an application process. If you’re relatively healthy and qualify, you can get lower rates and often better coverage than many other options.
